DJ Behrouz Nazari, an electronic music sensation of the last 2 decades, recently suffered a haemorrhagic stroke on the 24th of April, when he was about to play for the crowds at a festival in Santa Barbara, CA. After procedures of an induced coma, and further treatments, he is left half paralysed and now has speech difficulties. A Go Fund Me has been set up to assist his family in dealing with all the medical expenses as he has suffered 5 recent hospitalisations and 2 strokes now.
As WhereDJsPlay and music fans continue to support DJ Behrouz in this struggle, here is a throwback to his career’s magical moments.
DJ Behrouz made his music career debut with Stereo Productions and released Beatbox. He is an expert music mixer, and his tracks have strong elements of techno and deep house, though Behrouz likes to describe his signature style as:
‘If I were to give it my best shot, I would describe it as a myriad of different subgenres of music I have experimented with during my past 20 years of DJ’ing.’
Owing to the massive popularity of Beatbox among the fans of techno groove and progressive house, DJ Behrouz’s career skyrocketed as he held main residencies at San Francisco’s biggest clubs at that time, Club DV8 and Club 1105; each for 8 years at different times.
His remix of ‘Safe From Harm’ hit #1 on Billboard’s Dance Chart and topped all other charts. His single ‘What We Do In Life’ got included in the classic Yoshisque CD compilation and ‘Azab’ caught the interest of all popular DJs who have played it over and over. It has even been featured in DJ Carl Cox’s Fact-Australia CD series. He also launched ‘Pure Behrouz’ as a two-hour SIRIUS|XM radio show, that went on to air every Saturday night.
His entry to the Ibizan music Island was made when he was invited as a guest DJ to play for Circo Loco at DC-10 for 3 years, and he was later selected to rock Space Ibiza’s closing parties for the past 5 years. Behrouz later renamed his residencies to ‘Pure Behrouz’ – a name that is an icon itself in the music industry, and has his own club ‘Do Not Sit On The Furniture’.
DJ Behrouz also became a Robot Heart favourite at Playa, and later when he took the decks at the 10-year anniversary celebrations at Burning Man 2017 and performed again at Burning Man 2018. He then performed live at Robot Heart’s Fare Forward event this year at Central Park on April 30th and May 1st.
Thanks to his years of hard work and will, DJ Behrouz has earned a big name for himself, has released some highly acclaimed productions, received nominations and awards, and has sold huge volumes of CD compilations. His mix at Winter Music Conference (WMC) in 2012 has earned him a different spotlight. He holds nominations for Best Breakthrough DJ at the 2004 Dancestar Awards in Miami, for Best Breakthrough DJ at the 2004 DJ Awards in Ibiza and for Best Resident DJ at the 2005 Club World Awards.
DJ Behrouz is a music star worth celebrating, and in this low moment, to support him and his family, head over to Go Fund Me’s fundraiser and contribute to help.
